Palo Alto

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the city of Palo Alto is named after a historic 110-foot-tall California Redwood found by the Portolà expedition on the banks of the San Francisquito Creek in 1769.

Now a bustling charter city with a population of 67,000 people, Palo Alto is one of the biggest neighborhoods in the Bay Area. It is also one of the wealthiest, with the community listing a median household income of $137,120 in 2020.

This affluence can be attributed to the city serving as the headquarters for some of the biggest high-technology companies in the world, such as Palantir Technologies, Tesla, Hewlett-Packard, and Google.

Palo Alto also serves as home to Stanford University, one of the world’s leading research and academic institutions. Unsurprisingly, Palo Alto is home to several highly-rated schools such as Herbert Hoover Elementary and Palo Alto High, both of which are noted for their highly sought after academic programs.

In 2018, Palo Alto had a median property value of $2 million, coupled with a homeownership rate of 55.1%.

The architecture in Palo Alto is best described as an impressive tapestry of different eras and styles, with impressive Queen Anne mansions sitting side by side with Spanish Colonial estates and Mid-Century Modern dwellings.

Palo Alto also offers stunning natural attractions such as Baylands Nature Preserve, a 1,940-acre tract of undisturbed marshland with 15 miles of multi-use trails that provide visitors access to some of San Francisco Bay’s tidal and freshwater habitats.

The city also prides itself on having a vibrant shopping district, as well as cultural attractions like the historic Stanford Theatre, the Palo Alto Art Center, the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, the Computer History Museum, and the Museum of American Heritage.
