Los Altos

Located in the northern part of Silicon Valley, the tree-lined city of Los Altos is one of the  most affluent communities in the United States, with the city’s median household income for 2019 standing at $250,000.

One of the most coveted neighborhoods in the Bay Area, the median property value in Los Altos rose to $2 million in 2019, while its homeownership rate stood at 91.5%.

Originally an agricultural town specializing in apricot orchards, the city of Los Altos now has 30,500 residents, the majority of which are employed in the technology sector.  These employees work in the nearby cities of San Jose, Cupertino, Palo Alto, and San Francisco.

Los Altos’ famed peaceful, suburban atmosphere can be attributed to the community’s decision to limit commercial establishments such as restaurants, shops, and cafes to the downtown area and other select locations within the neighborhood.

One of the best places to raise children, Los Altos is served by two school districts: the Los Altos School District and the Cupertino Union School District. Both school districts have the reputation of being academically competitive, with the Los Altos School District consistently posting some of the highest API test scores in the whole of California.

A tight-knit and sought-after community, Los Altos’ civic groups and service clubs regularly host annual events that not only celebrate the seasons but also help bolster ties among the city’s residents. These long-running events include a Fall Festival every October, a Festival of Lights during the Thanksgiving season, and the Halloween Spooktacular. Other events include the Arts & Wine Festival, and the Pet Parade.

In addition, the city also regularly hosts activities such as outdoor Friday Movie Nights and other First Friday events, as well as seasonal farmers’ markets and summer art shows.
